PI

Dr. Xu Wanghuai received his PhD degrees from City University of Hong Kong and University of Science and Technology of China in 2020, after which he worked as a postdoctoral fellow (under the RGC postdoctoral fellowship scheme) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. In November 2022, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an RGC postdoctoral fellow and then was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in August 2023.

Over the past several years, he has published more than 40 papers in Journals such as Nature, Science Advances, Joule, and PNAS. He currently serves as a guest editor of Journal Micromachines.

His works have been recognized by many awards, including  Young Innovative Researcher Award (2025), the Hong Kong Youth Scientist Award (2022), MRS Graduate Student Silver Award (2021), RGC postdoctoral fellowship (2021), Hiwin Doctoral Dissertation Outstanding Award (2021), and Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Research Award (2020).

Postdoctoral Researchers

Chen Ma received his PhD degree in solid mechanic from Tsinghua University. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Faculty of Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research is centered on the solid-liquid interfaces, with a dedicated focus on achieving highly efficient phase change through the unique design of wettability and micro/nano-structures.

Dr DONG Jianing

Doctoral Candidate

Lihan JIN received his Bachelor's degree in Vehicle Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology in 2019, and Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong in 2020. Before joining Dr. XU’s Group, he was a research assistant at the City University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is currently pursuing a Ph. D. degree in Dr. XU’s Group with research interests focused on droplet energy harvesting, piezoelectric materials, wireless power transfer and the applications of all these new technologies.

JIN Lihan

Muqing Ge received his B.E. degree from Northwest University in 2023 and his M.S. degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2025. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include energy harvesting, wireless sensing, and the Internet of Things.

Mr. WANG Yanchao received his dual bachelor's degrees conferred by the Southern University of Science and Technology and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2024.  

 

His research areas include tribovoltaic effects and DEG circuit modeling.
